In the typified fashion of my academic area: hello, world! I'm a maths undergraduate and I'm a female. In recent years, much emphasis has been placed on enticing women into engineering, however mathematics is still languishing behind its contemporaries. It remains a stigmatised and opaque world. I hope to demystify life as a maths undergraduate, opening up on the challenges for women and explaining the opportunities available in this field.
I currently attend the University of St Andrews in Scotland. I have always had a natural love of maths but it was only upon studying it at this level that I truly appreciated the elegant intricacy of mathematics. Every female school student with the inclination towards this subject should be able to make an informed decision on whether to pursue a maths degree. A Female Mathematician will provide this illuminating information, and I hope it will serve to bring mathematics into the mainstream.
